Gilfach birds

Spent 11 hours birding at Gilfach yesterday guiding on the dawn chorus and bird day event. 43 species seen. Lots of Pied Flycatchers and Redstarts about. Just a single Wood warbler in the oak woods plus one briefly at the visitor centre. Tree Pipits all over the place as were Willow warbler & Chiffchaff. 3 Cuckoo including good views. Blackcaps and Garden Warblers mainly by the Marteg. At the hide a Dipper feeding 2 newly fledged young. A pair of Stonechat next to the road and in roadside gorse 2 Whitethroat sang – a scarce bird this high up. Most unusually a Fieldfare at dawn was the latest ive had locally. Finally a visiting birder reports a Lesser Whitethroat at the back of Elan Village.

  1. Well done you! Amazed at the Fieldfare-must’ve decided to enjoy the odd weather!!!
