Mandarin.

Once again L’dod lake is host to a Mandarin- spotted by Robin on Sat-when you see them in the sun , they look totally unreal-as if an artist has been playing with colours and spare bits of plastic! Tufty looks quite handsome too- 10 or so at pres.-the other guy isn’t quite so welcome as breeding season approaches!Namely a Lesser Black Back.

Well, well, well – had given up hope of seeing a Mandarin at the lake again. What a bird – totally unreal…. your description says it all, Kev. Must warrant publicity in papers? Would you think this is a new arrival or a reappearance?

  6. kevjoynes says:

Hi Heather-yes , it’s a lovely surprise-my wild guess from its somewhat more cautious behaviour is a newcomer, but you never know! Just wish a female would turn up, but we need a nest box as they go for holes up in a tree-youngsters just have to fall out and bounce!!
