Two trips to Claerwen this weekend, very quiet and quite hard work! Saturday in a lull during the rain – best were a flock of 25 Wagtails on the field near Ciloerwynt, 6 of which were White Wagtails. These appeared behind the rain and arrived as I was watching a group of 30 Meadow Pipit moving through. In the little quarry just before Ciloerwynt a pair of Goldcrests picked about.
Today there were 8 Mallard and a Little Grebe on Dolymynach with a Chiffchaff in the roadside willows. A few Goldcrests in the quarry and in the bushes below the dam. A group of 20 Meadow Pipit picking around the stones above the toilet block, a Dipper on the river by the bridge at Cerrigcwplau and a House Sparrow on the roof of the farmhouse.
Not a single thrush, of any species, anywhere!
Hi Steve,
Not seen a Thrush, of any species for a few weeks now ?
40 Mistles up Penrhos – a flock of juvs. Presume adults are moulting. Amazing to see so many berries and only a few crows on them. Redwings on their way though by all accounts.
Excellent year for the red berries, all waiting for our winter visitors.
