Water rail

Yesterday afternoon a water rail was screeching its head off in the tiny reed patch near the lakeside restaurant, and I was lucky to catch a glimpse. I suspected it was upset about two moorhens invading its patch, as the lake was mostly iced up and space was at a premium. It was as if a pig was being skinned!
