This week Don, Carole and I enjoyed our first yearly visits to two BTO Breeding Bird Survey squares, located off a tiny minor road not too far from Llanbister Road station. Local highlights seen/heard in this lovely area were 2 Garden Warblers, 3 Yellowhammers, 2 Cuckoos, 2 Grey Wagtails, a Spotted and a Pied Flycatcher, a few Redstarts, a Tree Pipit and a surprisingly large gathering of about a dozen Ravens in a clump of old pine trees. Doing a survey is great fun but it’s also very important for monitoring and providing proper scientific data about our birds. I can really recommend this to any reasonably keen birdwatcher.
I found your posting especially interesting. I live in North Somerset but am
an avid reader of the blog and regular visitor to the area. My next visit is
week commencing 20th May and only yesterday asked Bazz for some info
on different places to visit. As always he responded promptly with good
advice! Would you be prepared to provide further info on the area you
referred to? I fully understand if you do not feel able to but would welcome
as much or as little as you can!
