Not much from me lately but that is mainly been due to family commitments and not being able to do much birding! There is however lots of new life in the garden at the moment. First off were the House Sparrows with numerous noisy youngsters. Just as noisy were the young nuthatches who brought 2 fledglings into the garden. The Blackbirds have had 3 babies with similar numbers for the Blue and Great tits. Lastly we have had 2 fledgling Tree Sparrows being fed by mum & dad on the bird table, this is very encouraging and shows that our frequent visitors are actually a breeding pair.
Next Saturday we are off to the Highlands and will hopefully be pointing the binoculars at some Cairngorm specialities!
As an aside I rescued a rather large slow worm in Rock Park recently, it was sunning itself in the middle of the footpath in full view of predators, feet and dogs! It was the first I have seen down there.
